Halo @ E3 2014 – Halo: The Master Chief Collection

No need to rehash the intro, let’s get right to it!

Halo: The Master Chief Collection reactions:

Rumors notwithstanding, The Master Chief Collection is confirmed real and is almost everything I could want.

“Almost” you say? Of course! What kind of Halo fan would I be if I didn’t gripe about something trivial during a franchise high point?

Hyperbole aside, I’ve tried to let this announcement sink in since E3 2014 and I’ve come to the conclusion that yes, the nostalgia is strong with this one.

But I think there’s more to it then that, and you can find it in the definition of the word:

pleasure and sadness that is caused by remembering something from the past and wishing that you could experience it again

Here’s the thing: Halo: The Master Chief Collection will let you experience it again.

And not just that – your fondly remembered past just got better:

  • Halo 2 Anniversary
  • All the maps you remember (hello Midship!)
  • Some you’ve forgotten (Colossus, I’ve missed you and didn’t even know it!)
  • Remastered Halo 2 soundtrack
  • New cinematics
  • New terminals for Halo 2
Halo 2 Anniversary E3 2014
Remember that thing you did? Do it again with extra awesome

But it’s not just your Halo past that’s getting a swift kick in the butt from the boot of awesome – your future is looking bright as well:

  • “Halo: Nightfall”
  • Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer beta access

(There were a lot of great details I left out, so head to VentureBeat for more.)

This really is a package that has it all. I was planning on waiting until Halo 5: Guardians to purchase an Xbox One, but this Collection has me budgeting a little sooner than expected …

Suit up people – the best of your past and the start of your future hits November 11th.

  1. The Master Chief Collection will no doubt be amazing but it isn’t going to enough to get me to buy an Xbox One yet. I’m holding out for the Halo 5: Gaurdians console. I can’t wait to go back through all the old Master Chief adventures, especially Halo 2, but I want a Halo console.

Good to see you here man.

Your goal is noble – a Halo 5 console – and that’s what I would like to hold out for as well.

But the have almost the entirety of the Halo multiplayer experience from the past decade at my fingertips in less than five months? That is pretty tempting …

I’m already looking at the budget to see how our family may be able to pull it off, but what about this – do you think they’d make a special MCC-edition console?

      1. Hmmmmm? I hadn’t thought about that. If that gets announced, I may have to try to sweet talk my wife into letting me get one this year instead of next year. She has actually played some Halo with me the last couple of days so maybe she’ll get into it and that will make her want one as well. She was thrilled the other night when on a CTF match she carried the flag for 15 seconds. It was so cute.

      2. There is nothing like watching someone else start to enjoy a game you love just as much as you – even a taste! Very cool. We should all play sometime!

And the thrill of carrying the flag never leaves you, no matter how long you’ve been at it – am I right?

    1. Cory – thanks for the comment and follow, very appreciated!

I know what you mean about wanting the other games in there – anytime there’s a collection of anything, I always think, “but what about this? And how could you leave that out? etc.”

It makes me think of the all the special/ultimate editions of things I own, and they all seem to be incomplete in some kind of way.

We can always hope that they may be ported to the Xbox One in the future, which I think is a possibility – but with this collection I know 343 wanted to focus on the Chief (as they’re interested in his personal story).

I’m not saying it wouldn’t be great to have them in there (because it would), I just see their master plan working and it’s too bad ODST/Reach didn’t fit into it at the moment.
