It’s been a long road but I finished The Deerslayer by James Fenimore Cooper at 1:00pm on November 6, 2019, at work.
Why so specific? This goes back to the “long road” part. I’ve been reading the classic on and off for about three years, spurred on by finishing Cooper’s better known The Last of the Mohicans. I knew that if I didn’t jump in after finishing Mohicans I’d never get the drive to read this, the last-written of the “Leatherstocking Tales.”
Based on the length of time it took me to get through there’s no question it was a tough read for me, but I’m glad I made the journey through it.
Like so many things I don’t want to go, but once I get there I’m glad I came.
