LAN Assault!

Assault and Glory Await!

Assault and Glory Await!

On one of the last Friday nights in 2014, a group of men met beneath the stars – and a roof – to rekindle the flame of the LAN.

Undimmed by time or online gaming, the LAN stubbornly refuses to go away completely as having everyone in the same place is something special, something that reminds us of the realness of the experience.

It’s to this experience that we raised our controllers and, bathed in the glow of big screens and comforted by the smell of finely crafted pizza, proceeded to play some of the most fun I’ve had in a long time.

We played a few warm-up games but the real meat of the evening was Assault on Boneyard via Halo: Reach.

The teams were pretty even and we traded the bomb back and forth, strategies planned (or yelled out on the fly) and verbal barbs traded – but our team emerged victorious for the most part and it was a blast.

I’m really glad the event game together and a big thank you to those who made it happen, and who made it enjoyable!

This Side Up – Anniversary Achievements and Campaign

Inspired by my recent skulduggery I’ve kept the ship moving on Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary and I grabbed a few more achievements:

October Gaming Weekend ’14

The weekends come and go – we look forward to them all week, and they’re gone too soon.

Yet truly great weekends find a way to last longer, a way to stay with us more than the two and a half days they officially take up.

I point to Exhibit A – a recent weekend (10/10-11/14) – as my latest example of Continue reading →

Halo @ E3 2014 – Halo: The Master Chief Collection

No need to rehash the intro, let’s get right to it!

Halo: The Master Chief Collection reactions:

Rumors notwithstanding, The Master Chief Collection is confirmed real and is almost everything I could want.

“Almost” you say? Of course! What kind of Halo fan would I be if I didn’t gripe about something trivial during a franchise high point?

Hyperbole aside, I’ve tried to Continue reading →

Halo @ E3 2014 – general reactions

The stars aligned this afternoon and I was able to sit down and watch the entire Microsoft E3 2014 Media Briefing live from the comfort of my own home.

The kids were told to play outside, so that meant the room was mine alone. Currerbell1847 was close by, as I had the directive to tell her “when something Halo” came on.

Ladies and gentlemen something Halo did come on, and with Continue reading →

/r/Halo’s Book Club – a journey begins

As I mentioned in the last post /r/Halo has been a discovery for me, and one that I’m glad to have had.

One of the reasons for this is the book club they recently started, with The Fall of Reach being first on the list.

It’s always hard to find time to read, and having a schedule like this really helps me to plan ahead and carve out a space so I can keep up.

I’ve received permission from the mod who set this up – Afterbang – to post my answers to the questions he poses from each chapter here on Reactive Bias. That way you can follow along with me and I get to keep all my Halo thoughts in one place. Nice!

Feel free to join us over on /r/Halo or leave me your thoughts in the comments as I post each set of questions and my reactions. I’ve found AB’s questions help me look at the text in new ways, and I’m seeing things I didn’t notice before.

Halo Ann. Ring

The more you look the more there is

Good stuff, and reminds me of one of the strengths of the Halo Universe – the more you look, the more there is.
