My wife and I saw Iron Man this past Thursday (May 8th), and the movie lived up to the hype everyone was giving it. True, I had pretty much decided I was going to like the movie going in, but it really delivered on a great story with plenty of action.

Unfortunately, it looks as if the official tie-in game didn’t fare nearly as well, although you almost expect it with games based on movies. Well, there’s always next time.

As far the movie, I’m already enjoying the soundtrack and I look forward to the next installment.

Fear of the movie-based game

Originally posted at GameSpot on March 12, 2008

Let’s be honest – as a rule, games based on movies don’t work.

But simple math provides the reason why these bad games keep happening:

Fact 1 – movies make $$$

Fact 2 – games make $$$

Therefore, games based on movies will make $$$.

There are two movies coming out this summer I’m looking forward to which will undoubtedly be made into video games – and I’m nervous:

The Dark Knight

Iron Man

I hope things change.

I hope, starting now, that we no longer will have to fear movie-based games.

Only time will tell. . .
